In a recent FCC rule change that went into effect today (February 5), any entity that has an FCC Registration Number (“FRN”) faces a $1,000 per day penalty for the failure to update its registration information in the FCC’s Commission Registration System (CORES) within 10 business days of a change in its information. This change is a HUGE potential “tripwire” for virtually any entity that does business with the FCC.
One area of particular risk is where one or more FRNs are obtained for an enterprise by a third-party entity (which could include anyone who interacts with the FCC for filings, fees, or authorizations…your FCC engineers, attorneys, or even your friendly consultants and brokers). Such required updates must be updated online via CORES. Previously, the FCC rules required only that CORES registrants keep their information current, without any prescribed deadline for making updates.
Updates must be made within 10 business days of any change to:
- Entity name
- Entity type
- Contact name or title
- Physical or mailing address
- Email address
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
Don’t hesitate to reach out to MCH Enterprises if you need assistance not only with auditing your FRN records, but your OPIF documents as well.
